Clarion County Junior Sportsmen Program
In an effort to groom and mentor our next generation of Clarion County Sportsmen, the Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth is launching a new program called Clarion County Junior Sportsmen. The initiative is aimed at connecting, engaging, and empowering youth interested in protecting and advancing outdoor sports. We have spent many years guiding and helping establish and support multiple youth programs in our area. Now, we are looking to expand our outreach in a way that enables youth who have been positively impacted by these programs to bring their voice to our Board table. Our objectives in this new program include:
Connecting like-minded youth sportsmen to expand their network.
Mentoring young adult sportsmen to fill transitioning board openings.
Bringing fresh ideas and ambitions to our decision making through voices of youth stakeholders Potentially establishing a college scholarship fund for outstanding youth leadership
Engaging participation, volunteerism, and environmental stewardship to further the mission of the Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth.
Supporting and fostering young adult sportsmen who have ambitions to establish outdoor programs aimed at engaging other youth and/or wildlife conservation.
The program is open to Clarion, Venango, Forest, Jefferson, and Armstrong County youth ages 16-21. An application and letter of interest will be required along with a letter of recommendation from a teacher or group leader. Junior Sportsmen will be expected to attend most board meetings (approximately 9 per year) and provide assistance at our two annual events; Youth Field Day (early August) and our Fundraising Banquet (late February). Junior Sportsmen will be eligible to sit on Board committees and assigned small tasks such as information gathering, social media posts, and making phone calls. They may also be asked to help spread information about Youth Field Day, Hunter’s Safety, and outdoor and shooting clubs to others.
Participation will be a great opportunity to gain experience in a Board of Directors setting, to earn volunteer hours, to mentor other youth, and to be an integral part of the state’s largest Youth Field Day.
Young adults interested in or currently studying Wildlife Conservation, Land Management, Forestry, Parks and Recreation, Fisheries, etc. are strongly encouraged to apply.
Interested youth should submit the attached application along with a letter of interest and letter of recommendation to CCSFY PO Box 953 Knox, PA 16232 or by email to youthfieldday@gmail.com. Questions about the program, eligibility, or application submission can be directed to Julie Graf at (814)316-2608 or youthfieldday@gmail.com.
